Spring has arrived, and we have several months of backyard entertaining to look forward to. Before you fire up your braai for the first time this season, make sure that your grill is in tiptop shape. It doesn’t matter whether you have a Weber, a gas braai, or an old-fashioned braai stand, Buildit can help you get your braai in shape for spring and summer.
How to Clean Your Braai for the Season Ahead
Braais collect a lot of grease, dirt and food debris through multiple uses. If yours has been left unused during the winter months, all that gunk is pretty well entrenched by now. But don’t worry, because if you follow these steps, you will soon have your braai ready for that next Saturday gathering.

Steps to Get Your Braai Ready for Spring
When you take the cover off your braai and drag it back out into the sunlight, take the following steps to get the grill ready for cooking:
Step 1: Burn off the dirt: Start by lighting the fire and getting your grill good and hot. If your braai has a lid, put it over the grill for about ten minutes. The heat will burn much of the food residue, which you will then be able to scrape off with ease.
Step 2: Scrub the grill: Grab your braai brush and attack the grill. You should easily be able to scrub the charred debris off now. If there is any grease on the grill, wash it away with soapy water and a brush or sponge.
Step 3: Scrape and wash the inner walls of the braai: Leaving the grill to one side, scrape off the charred grease and other residue with your brush, especially the blade-like part on the front of it. All of it needs to go so it doesn’t affect the flavour of your food. You may need some soap and water to do a thorough job.
Step 4: Finish with a rubdown: With warm water and a sponge, wipe away what’s left of the grease, and get your braai looking as close to new as possible.Â
